The First Toaster Oven

toaster ovensOne of the earliest toaster ovens to appear in homes was during the early 1930’s.  The Breakfaster was a combo grill, toaster and oven.

Made from aluminum, the top of the combo appliance included a heating plate that could be used to make eggs in a pan or make a pot of oatmeal.  The side doors tilted open for inserting bread to make toast.

George Foreman toaster oven

George Foreman is an Olympic gold medalist and two-time Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the World.  He has also become an entrepreneur who sells cookbooks and many cooking appliances in addition to other health-related products.  His George Foreman grill revolutionized the personal kitchen appliance industry in the 1990s.

The George Foreman toaster oven 8-in-1 has the capability to bake, roast, broil, grill, griddle, warm bread, rotisserie, roast and toast in one appliance.  There is also a model available that combines an 8-burger capacity grill with a toaster oven to cook burgers while warming the buns for them.  His products are innovative and he shows no signs of slowing down!

Toaster Ovens

toaster ovens

Toaster ovens are great for smaller kitchens, especially in the warmer months where the last thing anyone wants to do is turn on the full-size oven and make their house even hotter.  They use less electricity than a regular oven and can perform many subtle cooking functions that a microwave cannot—for instance, broil meat and toast bread. Some toaster ovens have convection capabilities, nonstick features, thermostats, and other helpful features.

A toaster oven is also a friend of people who don’t like to cook much.  Toasting a bagel or defrosting a frozen burrito is a snap in a toaster oven.
